Visio teaches you how to make the best use of your remaining visual capabilities and your other senses (touch, hear, taste and smell). This allows you to still receive lots of information from your environment, but in a different manner.
Children are taught to use their senses in a playful manner. Using guided playing and stimulated development, children with visual disabilities (even very severe ones) can be stimulated to develop to the best of their capabilities. Training in independence, senses, playing skills, movement, posture and mobility helps children optimise their development potential.
Visual awareness training
In addition, Visio offers visual awareness training for people who have partial sightedness as a result of brain damage. Brain damage can cause, for example, hemianopsia (decreased vision in half the visual field) and/or quadrantanopia (decreased vision in one quarter the visual field). Depending on which side of the brain is damaged, the loss of vision might be on the right or left side. This situation is usually compensated by turning the head in order not to miss things on the affected side. Clients in this special Visio training learn to work with saccades. Step by step and with the help of an occupational therapist, the client learns how to apply this technique in increasingly more difficult situations.
